Derrick Lewis Admits to Cheating in Fights
UFC fan favorite Derrick Lewis has never been one to hold back—and in a recent interview with MMA Junkie, The Black Beast made a brutally honest confession: he’s cheated in fights on purpose.
“I was nervous as hell… soon as the fight started, I kneed him in the nuts on purpose, just to calm myself down.” – Derrick Lewis talking about his Ruan Potts fight.
He went on to admit that it wasn’t the only time he’s pushed the rules to gain an edge:
“Yeah, I cheat, s**t. Any means necessary. If I want to start poking the eyes and all that, I’m gonna poke you in the eye.”
According to Lewis, he exploits the leniency that referees often show on first-time fouls:
“They’re not gonna take a point soon as you poke somebody in the eye. They will just give you a warning. Everybody knows that. Just say, ‘My bad,’ and keep going.”

Known for his knockout power and hilarious post-fight interviews, Lewis has always kept it real with fans. But this revelation adds a new layer to his no-filter persona—raising eyebrows about just how far some fighters are willing to go once the cage door closes.
It also shows big holes in MMA’s refereeing system. A lot of fighters get away with those fouls which often can influence the outcome of the fight.
