Joaquin Buckley on Conor McGregor & Marvin Vettori’s Use of the N-Word
UFC fighter Joaquin Buckley has called out both Conor McGregor and Marvin Vettori for using the N-word in separate incidents. In a video on his YouTube channel, Buck What You Heard, Buckley expressed disappointment and concern over the lack of response from his fellow Black fighters regarding McGregor’s controversial post on X (formerly Twitter).
Buckley expected UFC veterans like Daniel Cormier (DC) to address McGregor’s language, especially considering Cormier’s close relationship with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the subject of McGregor’s post. “I thought DC would speak out because of how close he is with Khabib,” Buckley said, emphasizing the need for UFC fighters to hold others accountable for disrespectful remarks.
The issue didn’t end with McGregor. Buckley revealed a past confrontation with Vettori, who used the N-word towards him after an earlier incident at a training session in Las Vegas. Despite tensions, Buckley stressed that he won’t escalate the situation to street violence, instead suggesting they resolve it in a sparring session under professional conditions.
“This isn’t just about me,” Buckley explained. “A lot of us in the UFC need to speak up when people cross the line and disrespect our culture. It’s about setting boundaries.”
Buckley also expressed frustration with how fans and fighters trivialize these issues, often hiding behind social media anonymity. “If you’re bold enough to say it, then say it with your name and face on camera,” he challenged.
Ending on a broader note, Buckley reiterated the importance of unity, accountability, and respect in MMA. He also teased future projects, including UFC event appearances and collaborations on his Brick Brothers podcast, which covers fight news and predictions.
