News of the Week

🔸 UFC 317

UFC 317, held on June 28, 2025, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, delivered a thrilling night of fights, headlined by Ilia Topuria’s insane first-round knockout over Charles Oliveira to claim the vacant lightweight title.

Topuria, moving up from featherweight, showcased his elite striking, landing a devastating left hook at 2:27 to become a two-division champion, extending his undefeated record to 17-0.

In the co-main event, flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defended his title for a fourth time, dominating Kai Kara-France with relentless grappling before securing a rear-naked choke submission at 1:55 of round three.

The main card also featured a flyweight banger between Joshua Van and Brandon Royval, earning Fight of the Night honors with a record-breaking 344 significant strikes landed. Van, a 23-year-old rising star, edged out a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27), cementing his status as a title contender.

Beneil Dariush outworked Renato Moicano in a gritty lightweight clash, winning by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28), while Payton Talbott opened the card with a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) over Felipe Lima, showcasing improved takedown defense and striking to rebound from his first career loss.

🔸 UFC Star Power

The dwindling star power in the UFC becomes more apparent by the day. Jon Jones retired, Conor McGregor is in candy land, and Francis Ngannou remains on the outs. Ilia Topuria might be one of the few stars remaining in the sport and luckily, this was only further confirmed at UFC 317.

The Show Me The Money crew dives deep into the current state of UFC stars and wether it is a cause for concern or not. A new era has certainly entered the world of MMA. The question is: Are fans & fighters ready for it?

Show Me The Funny

🔸 Sean Strickland Cage Drama

UFC’s Sean Strickland & Chris Curtis were both involved in some drama over the weekend at a regional MMA show. One of their students was fighting on the card while Strickland & Curtis were in his corner.

Their student lost the fight, prompting his opponent to taunt Strickland & Curtis. Rather than shaking hands after the fight, Strickland & Curtis stormed the cage and attacked the opponent. Strickland even landed two punches to his face.

Moicano & Burns found the display hilarious. More specifically, Sean Strickland’s “angry man” walk while kicking off his flip flops. This warranted Moicano to PERFECTLY re-enact the now famous Strickland strut.

Quote of the Show

🔸 “Somebody said, hey, please stay away from Matty. I’m begging you, stay away from him. He’s fucking the curse.”

  • Matty Betss, recounting fans DMs taunting him after Moicano’s lost.
