Du Plessis & Strickland | UFC

Dricus Du Plessis

  • Willing to “kill a man in front of his family”

Dricus Du Plessis is super motivated to achieve more greatness at UFC 312 in his rematch against Sean Strickland. He wants to chase the records and to be considered one of the greatest MWs of all time. Another title defense would push him one step closer to that milestone.

DDP expects violence, even going as far as saying he is willing to “kill a man” inside of the Octagon. He put emphasis on the need to defeat Strickland in the rematch, stating he feels more prepared to face him the second time around.

DDP explains that he doesn’t dislike Strickland, but he enjoys the bad blood they share leading up to their fights. This bad blood will likely be spilled on Saturday night.

Sean Strickland

  • “I look like I should be going to a Klan meeting with Bryce Mitchell.”

Sean Strickland came into media day with his typical unfiltered approach. Aside from playful jabs, racist humor, and joking with the media, Strickland also emphasized his determination heading into this rematch against DDP.

Strickland looks at this fight as an opportunity to avenge his SD loss to DDP and to redeem himself as MW champion. Much like his views on life, the outcome of this fight will be pretty straight forward: either he wins or loses.

Strickland also showed his appreciation for the Australian fans during fight week. And of course, Strickland had to pay homage to the recent Bryce Mitchell controversy.

Zhang Weili

  • Valuing experience over talent

Zhang Weili is excited for the opportunity to defeat an undefeated prospect in Tatiana Suarez. She very clearly values her own experience against top competition over the skill set that Suarez brings to the Octagon. Her confidence is unmatched.

Weili also shows off her improved English, even going as far as jokingly firing her Chinese translator on the spot. Weili did a great job of showcasing her lovable personality alongside her killer instance to once again defend her title.

Tatiana Suarez

  • Considering SW title as “real main event”

It hasn’t been an easy road to the title amidst numerous injuries for Tatiana Suarez and she acknowledges the perseverance needed to get healthy. Grateful for the opportunity, Suarez says she is 100% healthy for the first time in a long time heading into the biggest fight of her career.

Suarez calls this fight the “defining moment” of her career. A win propels her amongst the greats. A loss sets her back a few pegs and further delays her dreams of becoming champion.

Suarez says she is laser focused and more than prepared to beat Zhang. She gives Zhang plenty of flowers, saying this isn’t the typical grappler vs striker fights fans are predicting it to be.
