Show Me The Money: Episode 39

Show Me The Money’s 39th episode kicks off with hosts Gilbert Burns, Renato Moicano, and Matty Betss all being ruinited for the first time in 2025. Moicano, having been busy with his UFC 311 fight preparation, has been absent from the podcast for nearly a month.

The biggest point of conversation this episode is Moicano’s reflection on his title fight defeat against Islam Makhachev. Despite the loss, Moicano is in great spirits and seems more motivated then ever before. His sense of humor certainly still remains.

With no UFC card this coming weekend, the Show Me The Money crew had a lot of fun just shooting the sh*t with each other and covering topics often overlooked. Prepare to laugh, get some fighter insight, and maybe even shed a tear during this special post-Moicano title fight episode!

News of the Week

  • UFC 311 Recap: Makhachev vs Moicano

At UFC 311, Islam Makhachev successfully defended his lightweight title against Renato Moicano, showcasing his dominance in the division. Makhachev secured a first-round submission victory with a D’Arce choke. This win not only extended Makhachev’s winning streak to 15 fights but also set a new record for the most UFC lightweight title defenses, surpassing the achievements of previous champions.

Moicano stepped up to fight Makhachev on only 24-hours notice. He entered the fight as a big underdog and although on the wrong side of the victory, fans around the world have more love for Moicano after the fight than they did before. As corny as it may sound, Moicano doesn’t need a belt to be considered a champion at Home of Fight.

Moicano reflects on the loss, expressing disappointment at missing a big opportunity but also recognizing his appreciation amongst fans. He discusses a potential knockdown he scored, the emotional impact of the crowd’s reaction, and his tactical regrets, including not staying calm on the ground against Makhachev.

  • Future Matchups for Moicano

Discussions include potential matchups for Moicano, with names like Paddy Pimblett and Michael Chandler thrown into the mix. He also mentions that a rebooking against Beneil Dariush would be satisfactory, perhaps at UFC 314 in Miami.

Moicano also recognizes that even though he lost the fight against Makhachev, his stock didn’t fall at all. Oppositely, he proved he belongs in the LW title mix, likely deserving a top-5 opponent next.

  • Cryptocurrency

With Donald Trump taking office this week, there was plenty of talk about his effect on economics & cryptocurrency. The hosts dive into Trump’s involvement with meme coins, expressing skepticism but recognizing the potential impact on the crypto market’s value.

Moicano shares his preference for Bitcoin, criticizing government and banking systems while advocating for secure investments in cryptocurrency. He believes Trump will bring a profitable age to many crypto-investors, including himself.

Show Me The Funny

  • Moicano vs IRS

Moicano begins the episode with a tease of a significant announcement but quickly pivots away from discussing specifics, humorously mentioning tax issues and IRS concerns. It’s no secret Moicano likes his MONEY, but let’s hope he spares some towards post-fight taxes so he can stay out of trouble, even if it was a ridiculously high LA tax rate.

  • The Gang’s Back Together

The episode is full of hilarious exchanges, including Moicano’s take on fashion choices, particularly his Gucci sunglasses, and playful jabs at each other. The boys were excited to be back in-studio together, and it really showed on screen.

Compared to when Show Me The Money started, the chemistry between the hosts is incredible now. This reunion episode felt more like long-lost friends seeing each other after years apart than co-workers coming back from a holiday break.

Presumably, host Gilbert Burns will be the next one to take a leave of absence as he prepares for his fight against Michael Morales. Until then, expect more of the usual nonsense every week on Show Me The Money!
