Gilbert Burns Stabbing Story
In his much anticipated return to the Show Me The Money podcast, Gilbert Burns tells the wild story of getting stabbed in the back by a shattered beer bottle after a chaotic street-fight in 2010 when Burns was 24 years old.
Burns, who was already a black belt in jiu-jitsu and living in São Paulo at the time, recalled that it was supposed to be a low-key night. “I didn’t even want to go out,” he said, explaining how his friends eventually convinced him to hit the streets for the Carnival. Despite his gut feeling—and even his mom telling him to stay home—he went anyway.
What started out as a normal night out immediately spiraled into a wild public brawl when Burns and his group of friends, all black-belts in BJJ but, as he joked, “all midgets” saw someone being robbed by a group of men. Burns jumped onto one of them “like [Fabricio] Werdum when he kicked Travis Browne,” and threw the first punch in his entire life and knocked one of the guys out cold.

From that point on, chaos ensued and bottles went flying, punches were thrown and the police eventually showed up. During the madness, Burns stated he was stabbed in the back by a broken bottle, with the scar still visible to this day.

Luckily, a scar was the only injury Burns came away with. In a street fight where blood is drawn, anything can happen. Even to future UFC title contenders.
It’s safe to say that ‘Durinho’ has always been a fighter, even outside of the Octagon!
